Boat House Restaurant, Kingairloch
Welcome to The Boathouse
The Boathouse was built during the Victorian era to house the launch boats that were used to go between the large steam yachts, moored in Loch a’Choire and the shore. This was the only access to the estate.
Once the road was constructed between the First and Second World War, The Boathouse became redundant until 2008, when my family, owners of Kingairloch felt it was time to renovate The Boathouse into a restaurant. It took months to complete with much care and attention to every detail. The ethos behind opening a restaurant in a remote part of Scotland was to provide a showcase of what fantastic food we have on our own doorsteps. We also felt it is a great addition for the local community and visitors to the area. Our first season in 2009 was a great success and we are looking forward to the seasons ahead. Roger and Bea work as a fantastic team running the kitchen and restaurant.
Our menu focuses on seasonal food from the estate, the hills and sea around us. The Victorian walled garden provides our herbs, flowers, leaves, fruit and vegetables, some of which we turn into jams, chutneys and pickles. The wild deer that roam the hills of Kingairloch are stalked and butchered by us in our own purpose built larder. Our wild netted salmon and the creel caught langoustines are caught by Sandy in Cuil Bay, Loch Linnhe. When the mackerel are in Loch a' Choire they also find their way onto the menu. We also smoke our own cheese and wild salmon and have plans to cure and smoke venison in the autumn months. When in season we forage for wild mushrooms, garlic and woodland sorrel. We use spelt flour in our own breads, oatcakes and cakes and use Scottish rapeseed oil to give a unique flavour in dressings and cooking.
